| Friday, February 10, 2012 Feasts Celebrated the Week of February 12, 2012: On Tuesday, February 20, 2012 at 9:00 AM (StC), we celebrate the memorial of Sts. Cyril (827-869) & Methodius (815-884) Sts. Cyril & Methodius were brothers bound not only by biology, but by their longing to evangelize the unenlightened heart. Their missionary zeal led them to Slavic territories where the seeds of Western Christendom had yet to be planted. At the time, the Western Church only recognized the Hebrew, Greek, and Latin languages; therefore, they were charged with the task of translating the Bible and liturgical texts into Slavonic. Because Slavonic did not have a written language, the brothers had to develop a script, which later became known as the Cyrillic alphabet, named after St. Cyril. On Friday, February 24, 2012 at 9:00 AM (StC), we celebrate the optional memorial of the Holy Seven Founders of the Servite Order. The Founders of the Order of Servites were seven young men with one vision – to “be of one mind and one heart” (Rule of St. Augustine) through common prayer, works of charity, and a special devotion to Mary, the Mother of God. 2012 Sourcebook page 94-96 Please bring in your Palms from last year to be burned and used for ashes for Ash Wednesday. | A Note from Fr. Jim: Transitioning: Open listings, the list of possible priest assignments, should be coming out this week. I expect to begin visiting parishes as part of discerning my next assignment. It has certainly been gratifying to hear from so many of our parish family sharing the events and our lives through these twelve years. I am very touched by the love you have shown me. Hopefully, we will also have priests wanting to come and visit St. Columbkille. I have heard from quite a few parishioners with thoughts about what they’d like to see in the next pastor. I will be sharing these thoughts with any priest who does come to visit and with Fr. Len Wenke when he comes to meet with our parish council on February 20. |
